Wind, rain, snow: Weather warning issued for Western Cape

The Cape Town Weather Office has issued several weather warnings for the parts of the Western Cape for the coming week.

A cold front is expected to move over the southwestern parts of the Western Cape today (Monday 19 July), resulting in rain and showers

Yellow level 4 warning for rain leading to flooding of roads and settlements (formal/informal) is expected over the City of Cape Town, Cape Winelands and Overberg Districts on Wednesday (21 July 2021).

Snowfall

Significant low freezing levels are expected over the interior of the Western Cape on Wednesday into Thursday morning.

Snowfall is expected to cover mountainous areas during this period. Snowfall accumulation between 2-5cm can be expected.

Snow downpours of between5-10cm are expected over the mountainous areas.

Damaging waves

The cold front passing over the Western Cape on Wednesday morning will result in south-westerly swell with wave heights of 6-8m between Saldanha Bay and Plettenberg Bay.

Damaging winds

Strong to gale force wind is expected along the coast between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay on Wednesday morning, moderating from late evening.
