Wild Fire breaks out on Lion’s Head Mountain, spreads to Signal Hill and Sea Point

Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) fire manager Philip Prins said units from TMNP, Working on Fire and the Volunteer wildfire service were deployed to help combat the fire. Strong winds of about 45km/h have made it difficult for the fire crews.

A wildfire that broke out on Lion’s Head lower slope near Quarry Hill in Cape Town has spread to Signal Hill and Sea Point.

The Table Mountain National Park said, the fire broke out at 4pm on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters were deployed after a member of the public notified authorities.

A second fire is said to have begun in Woodstock around 11 pm.

Although there has been no official evacuation call from authorities some Sea Point residents have started evacuating their homes.

Authorities are still to determine the cause of the fire.
