The Muizenberg Improvement District has denied allegations that the boardwalk near the beach has become unsafe.

According to Wayne Turner, the district’s public safety director, visibility of uniformed officials such as auxiliary officers on bicycle patrol, has helped deter criminal elements in the area.

While responding to reports that the area was unsafe on Capetalk, Turner said “There’s no one lurking… It’s the safest walk.”

Moreover, he said the Facebook posts and reports from community members, revealed that everyone is happy.

Turner affirmed that, volunteers and safety wardens are working closely with law enforcement agencies to monitor the area.

Four suspects were arrested earlier this week in connection with robberies near the beach and boardwalk.

Turner said: I’m correcting public perceptions… We are taking back our area.
