Cape Town’s over 18s queued up to get their jabs yesterday following Cabinet’s decision that the 18 to 34-year-old age cohort would be able to get vaccinated from Friday onwards.
Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde said by 15:30 on Friday, 151 861 people in the 18-34 age group in the province had registered on the Electronic Vaccine Data System.
“At our two mass vaccination centres of hope: Athlone stadium’s parking lot was full for the first time since its launch and by the afternoon had administered over 1400 vaccines. The CTICC mass vaccination centre of hope had administered over 2800 by the latest count,” Winde said.
To cater for the increased demand following the opening of vaccinations to the 18+ age cohort vaccination sites will be operational in some sites in the Western Cape on Saturday, 21 August between 8am – 3pm.
Cape Town’s Covid-19 vaccination drive got a massive boost today, as thousands of young people joined the queues.
