Public and private hospitals in the Western Cape province are filling up fast as infections continue peaking.

On Friday 13 August, the province recorded the highest number of new cases, with more than 3,900 people testing positive for the coronavirus.

The Western Cape Health head of department, Dr Keith Cloete, told eNCA that there are about 3,700 people with Covid-19, admitted to hospitals in the province.

Cloete said there are about 1700 people admitted in private sector hospitals and over 2000 people admitted in the public sector hospitals.

“That number of just about over 2000 has been our situation for the last 10 days in the public sector hospitals. We have a slight increase every day, but then we also have discharges and deaths,” he said.
