The Western Cape Department of Health has started vaccinating homeless people in Cape Town this week.
The health department is vaccinating homeless people and those who do not have identity documents.
This comes after NGOs in the sector raised concern about this vulnerable group possibly missing out on the jab due to their lack of documentation.
It is estimated that over 14 000 people are homeless in Cape Town.
On Friday homeless people queued at 14A Roland Street in central Cape Town to receive their Johnson & Johnson vaccine jabs.
As at 1pm on 6 August 2021, the Western Cape province had 41 965 active Covid-19 infections.

Because it’s one dosage, J&J is the best vaccine for the homeless and seasonal farmworkers.#LeavingNoOneBehind #JabsOnTheGround@WestCapeHealth @alanwinde @nomafrench pic.twitter.com/n9IYGw4M9r
