WC schools have over 450 active cases of COVID-19

The Western Cape Education says there are currently 148 active cases of covid-19 amongst school staff members and 314 active cases amongst learners in the province.

Minister of Education, Debbie Schäfer said that most of the cases are being reported by schools, however the provincial Department of Health had confirmed that the spike in infections is linked to social events rather than pupils being at school.

Schäfer has appealed to learners and staff members to be responsible by adhering to safety protocols both at school and at home.

She has also urged parents to consider the consequences of allowing their children to attend unnecessary gatherings.

Meanwhile, primary school learners are expected to resume in-person class attendance and traditional timetabling from July 26.
