Police Minister Bheki Cele felt the anger of most ordinary South Africans first hand when he tried to address a group of students who are protesting the rising scourge of femicide in South Africa.
Many of the protesters are from the University of Cape Town (UCT), where 19-year-old Uyinene Mrwetyana was a first-year student before her murder last week.
The group had gathered outside parliament in Cape Town demanding that a state of emergency be declared over the increase levels of violence against women. The protesters were also calling for a return of the death penalty.
Bheki Cele’s attempt to address the crowd didn’t go so well with the crowd in no mood to listen to his reassurance.
