A young boy is lucky to be alive after walking in on a group of armed men robbing a shop in Mitchells Plain. The three suspects were caught on CCTV footage carrying out an armed robbery and assaulting the child.

The incident took place in Everton Street, in Rondevlei, Lentegeur on Wednesday just after 8pm.The three suspects are seen entered  the shop wearing caps and blue surgical gloves.

One of the suspects had a shotgun and was threatening the shop owner to hand over the money in the till.

While the shop owner was doing this, a little boy casually entered the store seemingly unaware of the scene he had just walked into.

When the robbers realised the boy was present they started pushing and shoving him roughly. One of the robbers took the child to a separate part of the shop while the two others continued to loot the till. As they left the shop, they dragged the frightened little boy back to the front of the store.

According to Police Spokesperson Siyabulela Malo, three unknown men entered the business premises and threatened the complainant and everyone in the shop with a firearm and demanded cash, tobacco and a cellular telephone and fled the scene on foot.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported during this incident.

Malo said the circumstances surrounding this incident were under investigation and no arrests had been made.
