Virgin Active withdraws case against alleged ‘gym masturbator’

The gym believes that psychological help may be more appropriate than criminal sanction.

Virgin Active South Africa has withdrawn a case of sexual assault against a member  who was caught allegedly masturbating in one of their health clubs in Stellenbosch.

The gym said the more appropriate action would be to have the man banned and for him to seek psychological help.

The member was immediately banned for life from all their clubs, at the time the video clip went viral on social media.

Virgin Active’s spokesperson, Carla White, says the NPA is however likely to still set specific conditions that the suspect will be required to meet related to the withdrawal of the charges.

“We have an undertaking from his lawyer and family that he is receiving counselling and will continue with this course of therapy,” she added.
