Uyinene Mrwetyan was murdered at Clareinch Post Office and man currently identified only by his surname, Botha, has been formally charged with murder at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court this morning.
Botho, 42, was initially arrested on Friday in connection with Uyinene Mrwetyan’s missing status and the court heard that Botha bludgeoned her with a scale when she resisted his sexual advances.
The police say Botha confessed to the killing and they expect him to provide more details regarding the whereabouts of Mrwetyan’s body.
According to News24, on the day of her disappearance, Mrwetyana had gone to enquire about a parcel, but the electricity at the post office had been off. She was told to return later.
When she did, she was allegedly sexually assaulted and as she fought back, her attacker knocked her out, using a scale.
The case will be heard on 5 November.
