UPDATE: Watch, wildfire that engulfed Lion’s Head contained for now

City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson, Theo Layne said "This morning we have two helicopters that are water-bombing the inaccessible areas and we've managed to downscale to only 10 firefighting vehicles that remain on scene."

A fire that engulfed Lion’s Head mountain on Sunday afternoon was reported to be under control on Monday morning.

The fire started on Lion’s Head mountain and subsequently spread to Signal Hill and Sea Point.

Firefighters and volunteers worked overnight battling the flames.

Phillip Prins from Table Mountain National Parks said  that there is still one active fire line that they’re tackling.

City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson, Theo Layne said “This morning we have two helicopters that are water-bombing the inaccessible areas and we’ve managed to downscale to only 10 firefighting vehicles that remain on scene.”

Fire authorities have remained on high alert, monitoring Signal Hill and the surrounding areas.
