Two die in flood waters in Bonnievale

Two people have died in flooding in the Bonnievale area after a heavy storm hit the Western Cape on Wednesday 5 May 2021.

The two people became trapped after a truck got stuck between a river and a vineyard in Angora Road.

Emergency officials and police divers were dispatched to the scene to remove the two bodies.

In a separate incident one person has been reported missing in Stormsvlei.

There are also reports of people stuck in houses and a vehicle in the Stormsvlei area.

The Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell has praised the emergency services for working tirelessly throughout the night.

“The conditions were very difficult and we are grateful for the men and women who stood up once more to help our communities. We hope that we don’t see any further major incidents and urge the public to take care over the next few days.”
