The EFF Western Cape has released a press statement firmly denying any links to Luyanda Botha. The 42 year old Luyanda Botha is accused of raping and bludgeoning to death UCT student Uyinene Mrwetayana in a Claremont post office in August.
The former Post Office worker apparently confessed to the crimes but could not be named by order of the court.
The EFF released the press statement after it came to light that there is a WhatsApp conversation circulating on social media that alludes that the EFF supports the heinous acts committed by Luyanda Botha.
The alleged message even states that the EFF deems the accused murderer a fighter.
According to the statement the EFF still stands against Gender Based Violence and affirms that anyone found on the wrong side of the law should face the full wrath of the law.
The EFF states that it has been at the forefront of various campaigns against Gender Based Violence and shares the anger and pain felt by South Africans at because of the prevalent high rates of Gender Based Violence in South Africa.
The EFF will launch an investigation into the message which they believe is insensitive and disgusting.
The party stands behind the Mrwetayana family,friends and community in offering their unconditional support for the victims of Gender Based Violence in South Africa.
At his previous court appearance Botha did not apply for bail and the matter was postponed for further investigation.
Investigators were still awaiting the results of DNA tests on blood found inside the post office, the suspect’s car and his shoes.
Luyanda Botha is appearing in court today.
