The Department of Basic Education has gazetted regulations and guidelines for the phased reopening of schools.
The next phase of reopening schools will see Grades R, 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, and 11 return to school on July 6, 2020.
Schools for learners with Severe Intellectual Disabilities (SID) will reopen for Grades R, 1, 2, 3 and final year while schools with autistic learners will reopen for the junior and final year students.
The Department of Basic Education maintains that only schools that are in compliance with the minimum health and safety and social distancing measures will be allowed to open.
The department said it would continue to work hard to ensure that learners, teachers and school employees are protected.
As of June 19 the Western Cape Education Department confirmed that 61 learners and 375 teachers had tested positive for Covid-19.
While some schools in the province have had to be decontaminated up to 3 times.
