The Democratic Alliance says it’s going into this year’s elections mainly to lower the ANC’s national majority to below 60 percent.
The party also hopes to hold on to the Western Cape and also reduce the ANC’s hold on Gauteng and the Northern Cape.
Mike Moriarty, DA Federal Executive member said “our point is that we want to grow in size, we want to bring down the government that has a dominant majority at the moment, to a situation where they are unsure that they can possibly win a future election.”
The DA said it factored in race, when it was selecting its candidates this time around.
Federal executive chairperson, James Selfe said, “so the initial selection of candidates is always on a merit basis, there is an opportunity for selection panels to change, to recommend changes to our lists, depending on compelling reasons, most selection panels did so.”
According to the DA its candidates are the most diverse compared to other parties.
