City of Cape Town warns that blackouts may affect water supplies

“Our pumps for both the water and sewerage systems cannot operate properly without power for significant periods.”

The City of Cape Town on Tuesday revealed that Stage 6 load shedding could lead to intermittent water-supply disruptions.

Residents have been advised not to panic, despite the City not knowing the extent or nature of the possible water supply interruptions.

A statement released by the City of Cape Town said: “Our pumps for both the water and sewerage systems cannot operate properly without power for significant periods.”

Capetonians are already reeling from the load shedding, now another headache in the form of water supply shortages is looming.
