Cape coloured people's congress plans to shut down Cape Town tomorrow

The Cape Coloured People’s Congress is planning a protest action in Cape Town tomorrow, Monday 27 July 2020.

In a video shared widely on social media the organization’s leader, Fadiel Adams said the protest action is against marginalisation of coloured communities.

Adams also made mention of other grievances including gangsterism and gender-based violence.

Adams said the protest will be peaceful, with no stoning, looting, or petrol bombing.

“If you find anyone amongst the crowd doing something like that I expect you grab him and hand him over to law enforcement,” Adams said.

He has also called for the city to remove mayoral committee member for Safety and Security JP Smith from his position.

In response to the planned protest, Smith said protests must take place lawfully and must not violate the rights of the public.

Meanwhile, protests have erupted in Kraaifontein, the cause of the protests has not yet been established.
