Body of missing toddler found in a drain

The little boy's remains were found, nine days after she last saw her baby boy.

The body of the missing one-year-old toddler, Orderick Lucas was discovered in a drain, in Melton Rose, Cape Town on Tuesday.

Davedine Lucas, the mother of the toddler wailed metres away from the body of her 22-month-old son as his remains were removed from a drain.

The little boy’s remains were found, nine days after she last saw her baby boy.

Orderick’s body was discovered when children playing in Wittebol Street, tried to retrieve a ball they had kicked into a drain, they saw the tiny body, swarming with flies.

Hours earlier, Lucas told News24 that, despite the odds, she believed her son was still alive.

Little Orderick is said to have been left by the mother in the care of a male friend, however when she went to get him, the male friend told her he had already handed the child back to her.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel André Traut said a murder docket had been opened.
