The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape has castigated farm attacks in the province. This is in the wake of the murder of an elderly couple in Bonnievale and most recently the murder of a farm worker in Philippi. The ANC secretary in the Western Cape, Faiez Jacobs, said that each assault on the farming community was one against the country, black and white, and also food security.
“Every attack on a farm is an attack on our country. Each loss of life in these criminal attacks is regretted and is mourned. We call on all our people to stand together to defeat these criminals,” Jacobs said.
Police have since arrested 1 suspect who allegedly murdered the elderly couple in Bonnievale. The ANC was pleased with the police for their swift action and called on them to intensify intelligence operations against the perpetrators. Jacobs said “we call on our courts to impose the most severe sentences on those found guilty of attacking farms.”
