Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schafer said in some cases, criminals did not steal anything but destroyed infrastructure.
“The perpetrators assaulted the 59-year-old male while breaking into the school and stealing various items such as kettles, pots, a dishwasher and microwave.”
There are 314 active cases amongst learners in the province.
An LGBT non-profit organisation has started a petition calling for the school to apologise publicly.
The school provided counselling and therapeutic support to the victim.

The department is also arranging catch-up support programmes for the learners who have missed the first term.
The NCCC is expected to meet soon to discuss the possibility of a complete return to the classrooms in the second term.
Applications for exemption from public schooling for pupils will still apply for the duration of the National State of Disaster.
