An alleged gang leader was shot and killed in Bonteheuwel on Saturday morning.

It is alleged that the victim Ryan ‘Swaggy’ Swartz was the leader of the Dixie Boys gang.

News24 reported that he was shot in the right shoulder and died at 11:00.

Police suspect that the shooting was gang-related.

“Preliminary indications suggest that the shooting is gang-related and SAPS investigators are pursuing several leads,” Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said.

The shooting has sparked gang war fears between the Hard Livings and the Dixie Boys.

City of Cape Town councillor Angus Mckenzie said the threat of retaliation shootings is extremely high and called on residents to be highly vigilant and cautious.

Police have urged the public to report any information about planned criminal activity.
