A 48 year old man has been arrested after the body of a missing 12 year old named Michaela Williams was found in Philippi early this morning.

Michaela Williams was last seen in New Horizon, Grassy Park on Tuesday afternoon and was reported missing yesterday.

Williams was last seen in the company of a man who lived on the same street as she did.

Brigadier Novela Potelwa said a search was conducted for her and a man was interviewed after police received a tip off.

The interview led to the suspect showing the police where the body of Michaela Williams was hidden in Schaapkraal, Philippi.

The suspect has been charged with murder and is expected to appear in Wynberg magistrate’s court on Friday.

“A post mortem will soon be conducted to determine how she died and whether any more charges could be added.”

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt General Yolisa Matakata, said she was horrified that another child had faced such a gruesome death, she also thanked everyone who had searched for Williams adding that the criminal deserved a harsh sentence.

“While this will not bring back the life lost… the lengthy incarceration of the perpetrator will ensure the communities of Cape Town are much safer.”
