Shoprite branch manager shot dead in robbery

According to information, the woman was shot and killed just after being dropped off for work.

A Shoprite  branch manager was shot and killed in a robbery at Zwelethemba branch in Worcester on Sunday.

The manager was shot after refusing to hand over the shop’s keys to suspected robbers.

Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said the 55-year-old woman, a store manager at Shoprite in Zwelethemba, Worcester, was accosted at about 6am.

“Three armed men perpetrated a business robbery and shot the victim,” Rwexana said.

The perpetrators fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and they are yet to be arrested.

According to information, the woman was shot and killed just after being dropped off for work.

Shoprite has has denounced the escalating levels of violence and crime in communities, preventing ordinary citizens from going about their daily lives in peace.

The group also expressed its condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased.

Counselling has been arranged for the family of the victim as well as staff. The store has been closed until further notice.

Police detectives are following up on leads in an effort to bring the perpetrators to book.
