The search for a man who went missing off the coast of Hout Bay in the Western Cape on Sunday evening continues on Monday.
Hout Bay station commander Geoff Stevens said NSRI Hout Bay and NSRI Kommetjie units were alerted before 8pm, following reports of red distress flares out at sea between The Sentinel and Chapman’s Peak.
Sea rescue craft were dispatched and on arrival on the scene, it was found that two boats had collided.
“It appears that one boat may have been stationary in the water without navigational lights being displayed but this remains unconfirmed,” Stevens said.
Five men were rescued following the distress calls, with one man transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in a stable condition.
The NSRI said that the search for the missing man is being conducted five nautical miles off-shore from Hout Bay, with NSRI Hout Bay, NSRI Kommetjie and local fishing boats having joined the rescue effort on Sunday night.
