The South Africa Whale Disentanglement Network (SAWDN) successfully rescued a seven metre junior humpback whale that was tangled in the ropes north of Dassen Island on the Cape West Coast.
According to SAWDN spokesperson Craig Lambinon volunteers who were on the scene found the whale snared in ropes which were anchored to the sea bed and two floatation buoys.
Lambinon says specialised cutting equipment was then used to free the whale.
After the line had been cut the whale which was in good health, swam away.
