The fire that devastated Cape Town on Sunday and continued until Tuesday is largely contained with fire crews remaining vigilant for any flare ups.
The fire caused considerable damage which included:
• 2 Houses in the Rosebank area
• 6 Education buildings on the University of Cape Town campus
• 2 Heritage buildings including the Mostert’s Mill and UCT Jagger library
• 1 Restaurant at Rhodes Memorial.
SANParks estimates that more than 500 hectares of wildland was destroyed.
It has appointed an independent forensic investigator to help identify the cause of the fire. It is estimated that the report will be finalised in the next two weeks.
