Sans Souci Girls High teacher to appear in court on assault charges next week

... the teacher had been assessed by a psychologist on Friday and the assessment would make up part of her defense.

Sans Souci Girls’ High teacher who reportedly slapped a Grade 8 pupil at the beginning of February will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on assault charges on February 27.

The 34-year-old teacher as well as the mother of the teenager laid assault charges after the pupil shoved the teacher, who retaliated by striking the child across the face.

Netwerk24 had reported that the teacher’s disciplinary hearing had been postponed to next week Wednesday.

Apparently, the date coincides with the court date and will have to be postponed, Chris Klopper of the South African Teachers’ Union (SAOU) reportedly said.

Klopper said the teacher had been assessed by a psychologist on Friday and the assessment would make up part of her defense.

According to Netwerk24, the pupil’s disciplinary hearing resumed on Thursday.
