The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has officially begun patrols in the Western Cape to help the province fight against Covid-19.
According to the eNCA, nearly 170 soldiers have been deployed to the province for at least a month to help the provincial administration enforce lockdown regulations.
40 members are expected to be deployed to the Garden Route next week where they will assist disaster management authorities.
The SANDF is also helping with the health response- military medics are also expected to take up assignment in rural hospitals in Paarl and Worcester this week.
On the first night of patrols, the soldiers maintained a presence in Kraaifontein, Samora Machel, and Mitchells Plain.
