A Cape Town man was electrocuted on top of a Metro rail train travelling from Philippi station to Cape Town on Wednesday morning.
The driver of the train Vuyokazi Jaxa said he was informed by people walking on the road to stop the train as a fire was burning on top of the train.
“When I stopped, we realized there was a man on top of the train who had been electrocuted,” Jaxa said.
Philippi station was subsequently closed following the incident.
South African rapper AKA’s murder has left the country in shock. However, the police have made progress in the case and arrested suspects in connection with the murder.
A resident of Kensington has expressed frustration with the poor service provided by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA). The resident, who relies on PRASA’s train service for her daily commute, described the service as “pathetic” and called on the agency to improve its operations.
The City of Cape Town is heading to court to seek a precautionary interdict against the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) planned national shutdown. The city is concerned about the potential for violence and disruption to services during the shutdown, and is seeking to prevent any unlawful actions that may occur.
