Rescue teams search for man who went missing on Strand Beach

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI)'s Gordons Bay unit began the search on Saturday afternoon.

The Police Dive Unit and South African Police Services are frantically searching for a man who went missing from Strand Beach. The missing man is believed to be 30 years old and from Pretoria.

On Saturday the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI)’s Gordon’s Bay unit received a report that two men believed to be caught in rip currents had been swept out to sea.

Rescue services managed to find a 27 year old man from Johannesburg, he was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The other man remains missing, as police divers continue with their search efforts.

Recently, Craig Lambinon, from the NSRI cautioned the public to swim only at beaches where there were lifeguards on duty and to swim in swimming zones demarcated by lifeguards with red and yellow flags.

The warning came after four teenagers drowned at Rocklands Beach after they were caught in rip currents.
