Protests have erupted in Bloekombos, Kraaifontein after police removed illegal structure on privately-owned land.
According to the South African, the protesters’ petrol bombed the pump house and mealie field of local farmers who then shot at trespassers with a shotgun.
Angry residents in the area set alight the Tygerberg community race track and removed its zinc roof.
Roads in the area were also blocked by burning tyres.
Police are trying to disperse the crowd of almost 2000 protesters with rubber bullets and teargas.
Earlier this week the DA Lentegeur Branch said that the land invasions are stealing houses.
The Western Cape had reportedly lost 338.74 hectres of land by June 2020, which equates to R338 million lost in potential housing investment.
