Perpetrators of Hout Bay taxi violence will be locked up “until Jesus returns”: Cele

In response to calls for an inquiry into taxi violence in the province, Cele said there was no need for one: "This issue is easy, police must arrest people who kill people."

Police Minister Bheki Cele promised that suspects in the Hout Bay taxi violence will be arrested soon and that the perpetrators would be locked up “until Jesus returns”.

The taxi violence in Hout Bay claimed the lives of four people last Monday.

Speaking at a community engagement in the Western Cape town on Monday, Cele said:

“Government must not play around [in dealing with taxi violence] because if government plays around, taxi operators will play around as well and continue with the violence.”

“If a taxi operator is found to have been involved in last week’s violence, then that person will be arrested and the forfeiture unit will seize their taxis,” Cele promised.

In response to calls for an inquiry into taxi violence in the province, Cele said there was no need for one: “This issue is easy, police must arrest people who kill people.”

The deputy provincial commissioner for crime and detection, Jeremy Veary said:
