Over the past couple of weeks, Cape Town has seen widespread land invasion across the metropole.
According to the City of Cape Town last week alone there were 17 land invasions which were mostly thwarted.
Several attempts to occupy land or community facilities have been witnessed in Mfuleni and Khayelitsha, as well as Wallacedene, Delft (Blikkiesdorp), Dunoon, Firgrove (Macassar), Milnerton, Nyanga among others.
The DA Lentegeur Branch says the land invasions are stealing houses.
A discussion on Facebook facilitated by the DA Lentegeur Branch unpacked the impact that the land invasions have had on housing projects in the Western Cape.
The Western Cape had reportedly lost 338.74 hectres of land by June 2020, which equates to R338 million lost in potential housing investment.
The City of Cape Town said housing projects to the value of R1,3 billion under threat from land invasions.
