An Ottery Madressa owner and teacher has been arrested for a second time on allegations of sexual assault.
Abdul Karim Davids who works at the Halawat Ul Qur’an Haafith Academy was arretsed on Monday November 16.
According to police spokesperson, FC Van Wyk he was arrested for an incident which occurred in May 2017.
The 45-year-old man appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court the following day.
When the suspect made the court appearance it emerged that he is already out on a R1000 bail for the first case.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
The suspect was arrested and charged in 2019 for the alleged incident, which occurred during Ramadaan.
The suspect is expected to be back in court later this month where both cases will be dealt with.
Police say the State will oppose bail.
In the mean time the school has announced via a Facebook post, that Davids has stepped down as principal.
The Muslim Judicial Council has called on Davids to step down from all positions while the court process is underway.
