The Western Cape said only four of its municipalities are owing Eskom millions of rands.
Eskom presented the state of its systems at Megawatt Park on Monday.
During the presentation the power utility revealed that as of 31 January this year, municipalities owed Eskom an amount of R35.2 billion.
Eskom said it was in continuous talks with government to recover money owed by municipalities.
Western Cape MEC of Local Government Anton Bredell said four municipalities in the province owed Eskom;
- Matzikama municipality- R7.1 m
- Cederberg municipality- R39.6m
- Kannaland municipality- R13.9m
- Beaufort West municipality- R29.1m.
“We are very pleased to note that 26 of our municipalities are currently in good standing with Eskom.”
“We are working hard with the other four to arrange payment terms and to ensure the situation is resolved as speedily as possible,” said Bredell.
