National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon said they handled two fatal drownings over the past weekend in the Western Cape. The NSRI is urging swimmers to only take a dip at beaches that have lifeguards are present.

According to Lambinon the NSRI responded to an incident at Bloubergstrand Beach where a 17 year old girl drowned and authorities are still searching for her 15 year old cousin.

One man died in Hermanus in Overberg while free diving for crayfish.

Lambinon is also appealing to parents to keep an eagle eye on their children when they are close to the water.
