Notorious ‘Peppermint Palace’ demolished in Muizenberg

The Peppermint Palace was considered an eyesore by locals and the site of the former Atlantic Hotel. It had been used by squatters and criminals, with suspected illegal occupancy and drug trafficking taking place.

The notorious “Peppermint Palace” in Muizenberg is being demolished after years of being an eyesore and being used as a criminal haven. The site has been approved by Heritage Western Cape and will be replaced by a five-story block of 39 flats called The Muse.

Residents have welcomed the demolition of the building, saying it will bring business and safety to the area. The former caretaker of the building, who used to host loud parties, recalled fond memories of the place.
