Newlands Swimming Pool set to reopen after five-year closure

The City of Cape Town is anticipating the reopening of Newlands Pool on Friday 27 January.

The City of Cape Town has announced that Newlands Swimming Pool is anticipated to be open by the end of this week. The pool had been closed for five years for repairs, and reopened in March 2021, before closing again for the winter season in May. However, a chlorine gas leak delayed the planned reopening in December.

The City is currently conducting tests to ensure the water quality meets safety standards, and manual chlorine dosing will be conducted each day once the pool reopens.

Other public swimming pools in the area will have limited operating hours until the end of the season. Loadshedding may also affect the opening time of the pool, as the plant room is reliant on electricity to circulate water and distribute chemicals.
