Mother of San Souci pupil opens assault case against Teacher

“There are processes that are put in place and the school is currently running an investigation and there is also a legal investigation that is being run. That is it, that is all that I can say."

The mother of 16-year-old San Souci pupil who was slapped by her teacher during a heated argument has filed a criminal complaint of assault against the teacher.

The incident was captured on video and circulated on social media, the Western Cape Education Department is investigating the matter, before taking disciplinary measures.

The mother said “There are processes that are put in place and the school is currently running an investigation and there is also a legal investigation that is being run. That is it, that is all that I can say.”

She added that she had also seen the Teacher at the police station, but does not know why she was there.

On Wednesday morning students at the school held peaceful protests in support of the teacher.

The students had a banner written “It’s not about race. Teacher is not racist.”
