Minister of Tourism Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane has announced a number of new lockdown changes to aid the struggling tourism industry.
During a digital briefing on Thursday, July 30 Kubayi-Ngubane announced the new adjustments for the tourism industry going forward:
- The current 9 pm curfew has been extended until 10 pm,
- leisure travel within respective provinces is now permitted
- Accommodation facilities will be allowed to open for leisure purposes- no more than two people may share a room, except a ‘nuclear’ family (two parents and their children)
- Tour operators will be allowed to provide guided tours in open-top vehicles.
“Going forward we will invite health practitioners who are advising government on how best to manage the pandemic to meet with our sector so that together as we strategise on the way forward, we are armed with all the necessary information,” Kubayi-Ngubane said.
An official gazette detailing the changes and the official implementation will be published by the government date shortly.
