The 48 year old man who was arrested for the murder of 12 year old Michaela Williams had previously been arrested for rape and he lived 2 doors away from her residence.

The Western Cape Missing Persons Unit’s director Candice van der Rheede said to News24:

“Michaela Williams lived two doors away from him. The killing appears to be premeditated because the timing and everything was too coincidental. He was convicted of rape and sentenced to 20 years but came out about a year ago.”

Michaela Williams was last seen in New Horizon, Grassy Park on Tuesday afternoon and was reported missing early Wednesday morning.

Williams was last seen in the company of a man who lived on the same street as she did.

According to Van der Rheede when Williams mother, Beatrice Adams came out of the bathroom she looked for her daughter but could not find her.

The grieving mother said she had hoped her daughter would be found alive and was heartbroken when Michaela’s body was found in a dump.

After a tip off the police interviewed the 48 year old suspect who led them to where the body was in Schaapkraal, Philippi.

A post mortem was conducted yesterday but the results are yet to be released.

The man was supposed to appear on a murder charge in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court today but will now make his first appearance on Monday.
