City of Cape Town metro police officers doubled the number of arrests from July to December last year compared to 2021.
They arrested 3,089 offenders and confiscated almost 12,000 units of drugs, 40 firearms and 446 rounds of ammunition. The city warned locals were still vulnerable to smash and grab incidents, with 171 incidents recorded.
Officers responded to a Shotspotter gunshot alert and arrested a suspect with a 9mm firearm and 30 rounds of ammunition. The city conducts ongoing education and awareness drives to alert people to crime risks.
