Manenberg woman served with warning for animal cruelty

AWS said it would not be pursuing criminal charges against the owner as she had surrendered the dog and agreed that the AWS could inspect her property to ensure her compliance to the warning.
Manenberg woman served with final warning for animal cruelty

The Animal Welfare Society (AWS) has served an elderly Manenberg woman with a written warning for animal cruelty and neglect after a sick, chained dog was confiscated from her care.

The AWS said they received a call from the Animal Welfare Community Champion in Tambo Village, Manenberg, on 9 April about a sick dog who was cruelly secured by a short chain.

An investigation led by trainee inspector Sivuyile Kilwa, revealed that the dog named Kuhle, belonged to an elderly lady who claimed that she did not know who to approach for help.

Kuhle, was chained to a dangerous metal stake in the ground, and had lost almost all of her fur and appeared to have a severe skin infection.

She was taken in for treatment and the incident was reported to SAPS.
