A 23-year-old man who handed himself over to police on Sunday after allegedly killing an off-duty police officer in Delft, Western Cape appeared in the Bellville Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Constable Khangelani Mangqabini was shot in Ravel Street in Delft on Friday afternoon and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Mangqabini was based at Mowbray police station near the Cape Town city centre.
The suspect was accompanied by his attorney to Delft police station on Sunday morning at 9.30am where he handed himself over.
During his court appearance it emerged that the suspect who has been identified as Craig Amon is already facing another murder charge.
It also emerged that Amon is a member of the 28s gang.
The case has been postponed to 30 March for bail information and for an attorney to be appointed.
Amon is facing charges of murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
