Lime an electric scooter and bike rentals company will launch its electric scooter service in Cape Town, South Africa in early 2020.
Limes’s U.S. and Europe model deploys scooters on public sidewalks, however its first fleet of scooters in Cape Town will be deployed at privately owned locations throughout the city.
“Cape Town is helping lead the way forward on technology and innovation in Africa, and we’re excited to be a part of that story,” Lime Global Head of Operations and Strategy, Wayne Ting said.
“Our mission is to improve urban living through sustainable, affordable transportation, and we’re looking forward to extending meaningful mobility access and reduced carbon emissions to South Africans living in and traveling to Cape Town.”
The service comes with an app similar to the Uber app which allows users to hire dock-free bikes, e-assist bikes and electric scooters.
Scooters can be activated when a bar code is scanned from the app and payments can be made via the application.
