William Booth a prominent criminal attorney has called on the Legal Practice Council to take action following the shooting of another Cape Town lawyer on Wednesday.
William Booth has urged the Legal Practice Council to take prompt action amid growing concerns for the safety of legal professionals.
While speaking on Cape Talk Booth said the increasing threats and suspected hits on lawyers and judges negatively impacts the criminal justice system.
He revealed that the attacks on legal professionals leads to a compromise in the justice system.
“The Legal Practice Council… has to take a far stronger stand than it has in the past, to send out a message.”
In the most recent incident, a Cape Town attorney was shot and wounded in his car in Gardens on Wednesday morning.
It is alleged that the attorney was shot and wounded after a vehicle pulled up next to the attorney’s car on Constantia Road.
The attorney survived the shooting and is recovering in hospital.
In December, Cape Town advocate Vernon Jantjies was shot dead in an apparent hit at a petrol station in Mitchells Plain.
It is believed he was killed because he failed to ‘thwart’ a case.
