A number of men tried to set fire to the mountainous area behind the overload station on Kleinmond on Tuesday 15 June 2021.
The attempt was however unsuccessful as the field was likely too wet.
Protest action erupted in the area on Monday resulting in road closures as tyres were being burnt in the roadways.

On Tuesday morning the violence reportedly flared up again sporadically.

Last week on Friday the Police’s POPS (Public Order Policing Unit) was deployed to Kleinmond in anticipation of possible protest action after rumours of possible unrest.
This after the deployment of the Red Ants into the area after attempts by a small group of residents to peg out new plots on a section of land that had been cleared for a soccer training field in Over Hills.
