Justice minister convenes meeting to address systematic flaws in parole system

The meeting will also review parole cases, that were granted in the last financial year in the Western Cape

Ronald Lamola, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, has convened an urgent meeting with high ranking officials in the Department of Correctional Services and Chairpersons and Secretaries of Correctional Service Parole Boards in the Western Cape.

This follows repeated cases in the Western Cape of parolees allegedly committing crimes which include raping and killing of children.

According to the South African Government website a two day meeting will be held at Goodwood Correctional Facility from 4 March, 2020, with the aim of addressing the systemic flaws in the parole system.

The meeting will also review parole cases, that were granted in the last financial year in the Western Cape to determine whether there has been any failure to comply with the processes and procedures of the Correctional Services Act.
