Hiker severely injured after 13 metre fall off Lion’s Head

SAPS has launched an investigation seven months after a 23-year-old paraglider, Roderick Theron sustained fatal injuries whilst paragliding from Lions Heads.

A 21 year old woman sustained serious injuries after a 13 metre fall from the second ladder on Lion’s Head on Sunday morning.

Netcare 911 responded to reports of a fall at Lion’s Head hiking trail in Cape Town at 09.57am.

According to Shawn Herbst, Media Liaison Officer from Netcare 911, the hiker was airlifted to hospital following a complex rescue operation around 10am.

Herbst said in a statement:

“The patient was found to have sustained serious injuries and required Advanced Life Support intervention to stabilise her. The Air Mercy Services helicopter ambulance airlifted the patient off the mountain to an awaiting ambulance who transported her to hospital.”
